In search of a man
The wind of revival is flowing across the continents and there are sporadic outbreaks of revivals everywhere. But the world has not experienced the most expected, mighty revival yet. Books after books were written on revival. Messages after messages were preached everyday about revival. Revival songs… revival plays… revival prayer meetings…revival crusades…revival albums…revival skits… revival camps are adding color to the portrait of ‘REVIVAL’. Even then the portrait is unfinished and sometimes seems to be ugly. The thirsty church is announcing fasting prayers, planning meetings, taking mission offerings, arranging mission trips, conducting revival crusades and so on but they are only climbed a little and there is a long way to go. The revival of the first century is still an incident written in history. ‘History repeats’ is a proverb for every other occurrence and not for revival. The upper room experience has never happened again. Addition of 3000 people to a single church in one day, inclusion of 5000 another day have not happened later even in the midst of advanced technological tools and media of mass communication. Today people consider church services as a social get-together and evangelical crusades as a place for better life and prosperity. The first century converts asked the preachers, “what must I do to be saved”. But the modern converts ask, “What will I get if I come to church”. The first century revivalists preached about remission of sins. But the twenty first century revivalists preach only about modernization and easygoing life. The disciples of Jesus didn’t conduct miracle crusades, but they came in one accord with fear, thirst and expectation. It happened on that day ….. Will it not happen today? Of course it is possible even now if the preparation, the desperate desire and thirst and the sacrifice are the same as it was with the 120 fire brands.
We have………
We need a revival, a revival - shaking nations, breaking pulpits, destroying strongholds, penetrating into walled cities and hidden treasuries. If a revival has to break out, it should break individuals first, then churches, then nations and then the world. Many times we are satisfied with listening to TV and reading newspapers telling about revivals elsewhere. My dear brothers and sisters, revival should start in you. We are always pleased to hear and talk about Wesleyan revival, Holiness revival, Scottish revival, Wales revival, Korean revival, African revival, Argentina revival and so on. When will revival fire fall on you & me? This is the important question to be answered at once.
